Day Trip to PoulsboSummer is here and that means it’s prime time to get out and explore. Our chosen destination: Poulsbo, WA on the Kitsap Peninsula across the Puget Sound. Fortunately there are plenty of fun stops along the way, including Bainbridge Organic Distillers. A small outfit making some insanely delicious spirits. We tasted Vodka, Gin and my (Eric’s) favorite, Whisky. Good find and well worth the visit.Bainbridge Organic Distillers
Just rolled into Poulsbo – our first visit to this Sound-side Nordic town. Wow, it’s happening. Let’s see what we can find!Poulsbo, WashingtonShowing off some Nordic flair
Seems the best way to enjoy this town is by boat. Plenty of weekend mariners enjoying the sun with cocktail in hand. No luck thus far getting an invite to join a yacht party, but we’ll work the mojo and see what can be done. I think they’re on to something!Dockside shot on a warm day in Poulsbo, WALook at the perfect glassy water – loving it!Busy harbor for such a small town!Found a great little wine bar on the main drag called Sogno Di Vino, which after a little Google search I leaned that it translates to “dream of wine”. Yup, that seems appropriate! Couple of lovely reds paired with a nice cheese plate w/ focaccia and a fire roasted tomato chutney (Sinatra in the background) = two happy customers!Wine cellar at Sogno Di Vino
As we sit beneath their sign that simply reads “taste, relax, return”, we were struck by how perfect the relationship is between wine and cheese. It is a part of the very fabric that makes us the the social beings that we are. A past time enjoyed by countless others before us and surely countless after. Couple this with relaxation and good conversation and you find the best that life has to offer. And this, friends, is what we find in every glass we drink!
Still in Poulsbo enjoying water-side backgammon and a nice glass of white wine. Peaceful, warm, summer. No fair, Jen rolled over 10 doubles…and yes, I’m a poor loser.
Dinner time! Very hip and happening Tapas restaurant known simple as Paella Bar – menu and cocktail list look fantastic! Looking forward to some downing some much needed nutrients!
First order is in: goat cheese stuffed dates, roasted brussels sprouts w/ pancetta & manchengo plus a fennel pollen rubbed tuna carpaccio. Round two to follow! Lamb ribletts, delicious tenderloin and a fantastic chocolate tort to finish. Now on the ferry crossing the Sound and then heading home.Paella Bar, Poulsbo Washington
What a kick-ass day. And that, friends, is how to make the most of a Saturday.
Until next time…
